Do I Need to Install New Gutters?
As a homeowner, you might be wondering when to consider installing gutters. You should consider a new gutter installation project if you notice the following signs: peeling paint, soil erosion near your home, standing water or leaky gutters, overhanging shingles, and fascia boards rotting.
Why You Need to Hire a Professional for Gutter Installation
While you may be tempted to install gutters yourself to save money, the task requires specialized knowledge and tools. Installing gutters involves calculating the correct pitch, determining the best downspout location, and securely fastening the gutters to the fascia boards with sheet metal screws. By hiring a professional, you can be assured that your new gutters will be installed correctly and efficiently.
Benefits of Getting New Gutters
Installing new gutters offers numerous benefits. Firstly, it helps prevent water damage to your property. A well-installed gutter system also improves your home’s curb appeal, potentially increasing its value. Additionally, new gutters provide better water management during heavy rains, reducing the risk of soil erosion near your home.
What Size Gutters Do I Need?
The size of the gutters you need largely depends on your home’s roof size and the average rainfall in your area. The most common gutter size for residential homes is 5 to 6 inches, but professional guidance is recommended to make the most suitable choice.
Quality Service for Your Gutter Installation
For optimal results from a local gutter company, let our experts handle the job for you. Gutter installation is no small task and you need to be sure that only reliable experts are taking care of it for you.
We install a minimum of .063″ hidden hanger and screw combination. We space the hangers 6″ from the end cap of each gutter, then at least every 24″ on-center to the other end.
All of the fascia board is inspected prior to installation. Hangers are not designed to firmly secure to the rafter.
There is 1 1/2 inches of screw past the back of the gutter. Installing to 3/4″ or 5/4″ fascia does not leave enough thread to firmly secure to the rafter.
On custom and copper gutter installations, we change to longer screws, adding up to an additional 1 1/2 inches.
This, combined with our professional installation, will ensure enough screw thread is available to secure to a rafter. While some of our customers experience damaged gutters, we have the front face of the gutter was torn while the back was still attached securely to the fascia.

FAQs
What does it cost to install gutters?
The gutter installation cost is dependent on various factors such as the gutter material, the size of your house, and the complexity of the installation. For instance, aluminum gutters and vinyl gutters may have different prices due to their varying durability and aesthetics. Similarly, installing gutters on a multi-story building could incur higher costs due to the increased risk and complexity involved. At NJ Gutter, we calculate our costs per linear foot and provide a transparent quote before commencing the gutter installation project.
Should you install gutters yourself?
While some homeowners might be tempted to install gutters themselves to save on labor costs, this is not usually advisable. Installing gutters is a specialized task that requires professional knowledge and equipment. A slight mistake in gutter installation can lead to significant water damage to your property. Therefore, it’s best to entrust your gutter installation to experienced professionals like those at NJ Gutter to ensure a secure and efficient job.
How do gutters attach to the house?
Gutters are attached to the house using fascia brackets, which are secured to the fascia board using sheet metal screws. The gutter sections are then fitted into these brackets. It’s essential to maintain an appropriate slope or pitch towards the downspout outlet for proper water flow. Professional gutter installers at NJ Gutter have the expertise to securely attach gutters to your house, ensuring they function effectively.
What questions should I ask a gutter installer?
Before hiring a professional for your gutter installation project, it’s essential to ask several questions. These could include: What types of gutter materials do you offer, and which would be best for my home? How do you calculate your gutter installation costs? Are there any hidden charges? Can you provide references from past customers in Hunterdon County, NJ, Somerset County, NJ, or other locations you serve? Do you offer any warranties or guarantees on your gutter installation services?
How do you prepare for gutter installation?
Before the gutter installation, the professional installer will evaluate your home’s exterior and roof layout to determine the best gutter style, size, and material. You should ensure that the area around your house is clear of any obstacles that might interfere with the installation. At NJ Gutter, we offer a thorough pre-installation assessment to ensure your new gutters are a perfect fit for your home. We consider several factors, including your roof’s design, your locale’s average rainfall, and your budget, to provide the most effective and cost-efficient solution.
